Moneygall is a small village in County Offaly , Ireland . It has a population of approximately 300 people, has a Roman Catholic church, five shops, a post office, a national school, a police station and two pubs.
President-elect of the United States Barack Obama's great-great-great grandfather, Falmouth Kearney, emigrated from Moneygall to New York City at the age of 19 in 1850 and eventually resettled in Tipton County , Indiana . Kearney 's father had been the village shoemaker, then a wealthy skilled trade.

What can I say about myself in a sentence or a paragraph that would let you see me as I truly am? Would you see a word or a phrase that would paint you a complete picture, cause you to turn away, make you think you know me or make you want to know me? I am ever changing though I remain constant. I am happy alone but need my family and friends. I am a follower of One and in the fellowship of many. I hope and I despair, because life is both ugly and beautiful. It is a unified dichotomy, simple yet problematic.
And I am learning to swim these waters moment by moment.
Please no-one be offended!

Ali,
ReplyDeleteNo one need be (and no one should be!) offended, it's an awesome song! And thanks for the history behind it...
I told you all Americans are Irish or wish they were.
Hardy Drew and the Nancy Boys? Is that seriously their name? I'm mentally drifting to my childhood reading and Nancy Drew and the Hardy Boys.
ReplyDeleteBrilliant! (and a darn sight better than the poem used at the inauguration...IMO)
