The Sound of Music

As I was leaving work yesterday a harmless little song popped in to my head. And stayed there. For hours...and hours.

So, you say? Happens all the time, you say. Yes. Yes, I know. But this particular ditty (no longer considered harmless after thirty minutes of repetition) is one I've not heard (at least that I know of) in over 30 years. Although 30 years ago I am most certain I heard it hundreds and hundreds of times. But isn't really a song. At least not one that would make the Billboard charts...

Take a listen....

Apparently the fragrance is not the only thing that is here to stay...can you say Earworm children? I knew you could.

So tell me, what is the worst ear worm (definition #2) you've ever had?

  3. Candy,
Oh man! TV show themes! Remember The Courtship of Eddie's Father? I get that stuck all the time! This is kind of like the post you did on the soundtrack for Hell...

    Meg,
That one is bad! What about La Bamba??? :)

  4. la bamba, yeah. earworms happen to me a LOT. my latest is "ticky tacky boxes" the theme from "Weeds". We don't have Showtime or cable or tv for that matter but we sure have Netflix. SO -- we watch this 1/2 hour series 4 or 5 in a row, sometimes the whole disc. That theme song is burned into my brain for all eternity. At first I hated it and skipped it -- when it was done by the orignal artist:

Now I actually listen to it on purpose -- for each show they have a different artist singing it. Some are good and some are undeniably skippable.

What the hell is ticky tacky anyway? = ]

How the hell are you!?!?!? :) And where have you been?
Let's see...I know what ticky tack is, I know what tacky is, I know what boxes are, but ticky tacky boxes have me a bit confused!!

  6. lol. it's just a song about suburbian California full of houses (boxes) made of crap material that all look identical just like the people...

"Little boxes on the hillside, little boxes made of ticky tacky
Little boxes on the hillside, little boxes all the same
There's a green one and a pink one and a blue one and a yellow one
And they're all made out of ticky tacky and they all look just the same.

And the people in the houses all went to the university
Where they were put in boxes and they came out all the same,
And there's doctors and there's lawyers, and business executives
And they're all made out of ticky tacky and they all look just the same.

And they all play on the golf course and drink their martinis dry,
And they all have pretty children and the children go to school
And the children go to summer camp and then to the university
Where they are put in boxes and they come out all the same.

And the boys go into business and marry and raise a family
In boxes made of ticky tacky and they all look just the same."

The video link I included has the opening credits of the show. The song makes a lot more sense if you watch. It's silly and very seriously ear-wormy. Be warned. = ]
